About The Position

Avenues New York is seeking a creative, curious and adaptive art teacher in our Lower Division. Art and design are an intrinsic part of an integrated curriculum, and our visual art teachers work closely with faculty from the disciplines of science, World, and English. As an Avenues art teacher you will: Ensure that students achieve key learning outcomes in the arts, targeting instruction thoughtfully to address diverse individual needs Collaborate intensively with colleagues to refine our visual arts curriculum and develop interdisciplinary projects Build a robust learning atmosphere that leads students to feel part of a rigorous but joyful learning community

Requirements

Full professional fluency in Spanish
2 or more years of art teaching experience with students in grade K-5
Commitment to working with students of varying levels of interest and ability
An understanding of social emotional development of young children and strong classroom management skills
Strong collaboration skills
Enthusiasm for project-based learning environments and student-centered classrooms
Experience in multiple mediums of art instruction
A robust personal art practice
