About The Position

In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the successful applicant will serve as the program coordinator of and instructor in the Welding Technology program. As coordinator, the individual will be responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, and overall effectiveness of the educational program throughout the district. The coordinator is also responsible in maintaining and overseeing the welding facilities. As an instructor, the individual will teach Welding Technology program courses (lecture and lab) in both the traditional and virtual environment. The individual will also administer activities such as recruitment of students, skills competitions, assessment of student performance and collaboration with welding faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in the program. Additional responsibilities include participating in professional development activities and serving as needed on committees within the department, division and college.

Requirements

  • AAS Degree in Welding Technology preferred.
  • Excellent oxy-fuel cutting and manual welding skills with SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW in all positions is required.
  • Prior teaching or technical training experience that includes teaching welding courses, conducting and supervising welding laboratory learning experiences and evaluating student achievement is required.
  • Minimum of 2,000 hours of documented welding experience in industry is required.
  • Weld fabrication print reading skills are required.
  • Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively use computers for tasks such as e-mail, internet and word processing is required; experience with PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and Blackboard is preferred.
  • Experience programming industrial robotics for welding and using automatic welding equipment is required.
  • Background in administrative activities including staffing, long-range planning, outcomes assessment, evaluation of staff, recruitment of students, SkillsUSA advising, course development, capital equipment recommendations, and inventory & ordering of supplies is required.
  • Valid class C or higher driver's license required.
  • Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
