The Welding and Machining Lab Technician is primarily responsible for the operation, maintenance, and safety of the welding and machine labs. This includes ensuring that all related equipment is in proper working condition, assisting with lab setup, supporting faculty instruction, and maintaining tools and materials. The technician also provides secondary support to other ASET instructional labs, including construction, automotive, electronics, and mechanical systems labs, as directed.(A) Welding and Machining Lab (Primary Focus): Maintain, repair, and calibrate welding and machining equipment (MIG, TIG, Stick welders, plasma cutters, grinders, lathes, mills, saws, CNCs). Assist with preparation and setup for welding and machining instructional labs. Ensure proper operation and safety of all welding booths, fume extractors, and machine tools. Maintain tool inventory, order consumables, and track materials for welding and machining labs. Perform fabrication and machining tasks as needed for lab projects or equipment repair. Provide hands-on assistance to students with welding and machining tools as directed by faculty (outside direct course instruction). Perform routine inspections and schedule preventative maintenance for welding and machine shop equipment. Operate shear, saws, press brakes, and other fabrication tools. Enforce safety protocols and maintain cleanliness of welding and machining labs. Assist in the setup and calibration of CNC and programmable equipment for lab use. (B) Support for Other ASET Labs (Secondary): Provide basic maintenance and material support to other instructional labs as needed (e.g., automotive, renewable energy, construction, electrical/electronics, metrology). Assist with inventory control, tool tracking, and procurement of general supplies across labs. Support faculty with special lab project preparation or facility setup as directed. Perform light facility maintenance and troubleshooting in ASET spaces. (C) General Responsibilities: Track purchase orders, supply usage, and equipment maintenance logs. Operates the Forklift within the division to move parts, materials and machinery as needed. Supervise student assistants assigned to lab maintenance. Promote a safe, organized, and efficient learning environment. Remain current through relevant training and certifications. Promote and adhere to college values including respect, collaboration, and customer service. Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or designated supervisor.
