About The Position

The Weld Inspector is responsible for inspecting production welds to verify compliance with AWS D1.1 and internal shop standards, completing accurate inspection documentation, and maintaining organized, current job folders. This role works closely with welders and management and must build credibility through consistent, fair inspections and clear communication. What Success Looks Like Welds are inspected consistently and accurately against AWS D1.1 and shop standards. Inspection reports are complete, legible, and submitted on time with minimal rework. Job folders are always current and audit-ready. Welders and management trust the inspector's calls because they're factual, consistent, and well communicated.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret weld inspection criteria and apply standards consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete documentation accurately.
  • Ability to maintain organized records and keep multiple job folders current.
  • Effective communication skills; able to deliver inspection results professionally and respectfully.
  • Must pass an eye exam (vision requirements per company policy).
  • Ability to work effectively with both production (welders) and leadership (supervision/management) and build trust with both groups.

Nice To Haves

  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification preferred but not required.
  • Prior weld inspection experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1 documentation and inspection reporting practices.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect welds in-process and/or final (as required) to confirm compliance with AWS D1.1 and shop standards.
  • Document inspection results accurately and completely in required inspection reports.
  • Maintain and update job folders with inspection records, weld documentation, and other required quality documents.
  • Identify nonconformances and communicate findings clearly to welders and supervision, including required corrective actions.
  • Partner with welders to prevent repeat issues by clarifying requirements and verifying corrective actions.
  • Escalate quality concerns or repeated defects to the Senior CWI with supporting facts (photos, measurements, report references).
  • Follow all safety requirements and ensure proper PPE use while on the shop floor.
