About The Position

Welds defects in castings made of heat and corrosive resistant alloys, or iron, cobalt and nickel base alloys in conformance with customer specifications and CCTC's standards for repairing castings. Performs the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • One year certificate from college or technical school and three to six months related experience and/or training in production welding.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and apply concepts of basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mil standard 1595A – AWS 17.1 certified or ability to pass certification test in Groups I, II & III.
  • GTAW / TIG.
  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and sit.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and the potential exists for exposure to chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience welding IN-939 & FXS-414 alloys or similar, helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
  • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
  • Starts power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to casting.
  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
  • Cleans or degreases weld joint or casting.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
  • Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Preheats casting with hand torch or heating furnace as required.
  • Positions and clamps castings together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
  • Tacks assemblies together.
