About The Position

Make repairs to equipment, make judgment calls in order to keep the road equipment functioning, be able to assess the jobs and repair in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Experience and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment and other power driven equipment and tools.
• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
• Carry out complex oral and written instructions.
• Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures.
• Work effectively with the general public.
• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• The incumbent must have a high school diploma or equivalent, five-to-eight years of experience in diesel/gasoline mechanics.

Nice To Haves

• Trade school coursework/certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs major and minor repairs of gasoline and diesel engines.
• Must be able to analyze the situation and make decisions as to needed repairs or replacement, thus saving taxpayer dollars.
• Must be able to exercise good judgment in setting priorities based on need, parts, costs, and demands.
• Keeps work area clean and maintains all safety standards as required by law and the policies of Benton County.
• Road tests all vehicles and equipment to establish a working knowledge of who it should run and the effectiveness of the repairs.
• Must travel to the field to make assessments on equipment and make repairs, minimizing down-time.
• Provides personal tools to accomplish necessary repairs.
• Performs fabrication work on all equipment as needed.
• Cross-training in repairing and replacing tires.
