About The Position

The Welder is responsible for safely and accurately welding thin-gauge carbon steel components used in the production of livestock products such as gates and panels, fencing, and cattle feeders. This position requires proficiency in MIG and flux-core welding processes, strong attention to detail, and the ability to interpret blueprints and specifications. Welders in this role play a critical part in ensuring the structural integrity, quality, and durability of Sioux Steel products.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience welding thin-gauge carbon steel and heavy agricultural or industrial components required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in MIG (GMAW) and flux-core (FCAW) welding processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and production drawings.
  • Skill in setting and adjusting welding parameters (amperage, voltage, wire feed speed, etc.) for varying material thicknesses.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Successful completion of internal welding test required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform weld preparation, fabrication, and finishing operations on thin-gauge steel components used in livestock agricultural products.
  • Operate MIG and flux-core welding equipment to produce high-quality welds that meet or exceed company standards.
  • Set up welding machines and select appropriate wire, filler materials, and gas settings.
  • Position, align, and secure parts using fixtures, clamps, or jigs.
  • Read and follow blueprints, work orders, and production schedules.
  • Inspect completed welds visually and with measuring tools to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Safely operate grinders, torches, and other power tools to clean and finish welded assemblies.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on welding equipment and tools.
  • Accurately record production information, part counts, and quality checks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Support safety and good housekeeping practices across all work areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
