About The Position

Part of Dover Corporation’s Engineered Systems segment, Vehicle Service Group (VSG) is a strong, diverse and dynamic global leader in the vehicle service industry. VSG comprises 13 major vehicle lifting, wheel service, diagnostic and collision repair brands: Rotary Lift®, Chief®, Forward®, Direct-Lift®, Ravaglioli, Hanmecson®, Revolution®, Elektron, Blitz, Nogra, Butler, Space and Sirio. SUMMARY Performs general structural welding using Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) semi-automatic and automatic welding equipment. Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) also could be required. This position may also require work on any of the pieces of equipment in the plant and in any other classification. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment in a warehouse/manufacturing environment. Employees are required to wear PPE at all times, including steel-toed shoes with metatarsal guards, eye protection, and ear protection. Work is primarily indoors, non-climate controlled. Some positions require exposure to outside elements. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE Must be able to lift 35 lbs repeatedly – a minimum of 2 times per day. Makes own set-ups including: Positioning of fixtures. Setting of proper welding heat and rate of travel of welding wire and work. Load machine with wire and wire reel. Change gas or add flux as required. Check set-up and completed parts to insure quality. Loads and unloads fixtures. Uses electrical or mechanical hoists as required. Directs the work of a helper when necessary. Removes slag from weld head. Directs the positioning and removal of parts and material in work area. Records the number of parts produced on time card and move ticket. Performs preventive maintenance, such as changing tips and adjustment of wire feed rolls. Checks job travelers for special instructions or notes BEFORE proceeding with job assigned. Performs housekeeping duties as necessary to keep work area safe, clean and in good order. GENERAL SUMMARY: Receives job prints, work order and/or instructions from supervisor and proceeds with a minimum of supervision and direction. Perform set up and welding operations on all types of welding machines having strict inspection and test requirements. Set up fixtures; adjust and regulate machine to obtain best possible penetration, fill, weld quality and performance. Make compensating adjustments to allow for variations and conditions. Operate various types of equipment. Work is given process supervision and check; completed work is tested and inspected. Perform other work of similar of comparable nature incidental to the performance of the operation. Measure scribes, position, lay out materials, jigs or fixtures, etc., as necessary or directed to insure completion of cycle, maintaining product quality. Assist new operators in learning the correct and safe operation of the equipment when required. Take care of machines, tools, equipment work areas, etc. Operator is required to read and write and do arithmetic calculations necessary to perform the job. Requires a knowledge of welding fundamentals. Required to read blueprints and maintain tolerances as shown on prints.

  • Ability to pass general aptitude/basic math skills test
  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs multiple times per day
  • Must pass welding coupon test
  • Must pass written welding test
