Position Summary: The Weld Lead successfully leads and instructs members of a welding team as well as performs standardized welding techniques, practices, and procedures to ensure quality fabrication of company products while following all safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • Certified to train welding procedures, practices, symbols, and techniques required to weld and/or fuse metals together.
  • Highly skilled ability to use hand and power tools associated with welding, such as chipping hammer, grinder, arc welder, and oxygen/acetylene torch including setup or connection of hoses, cords, and regulators.
  • Accomplished ability to read and comprehend blue prints and/or sketches.
  • Knowledge and ability to use common measuring instruments and hand tools such as tape measure, level, square, file or rasp.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to contribute and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate and inspect work for accuracy and thoroughness to ensure first quality of work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in course of work.
  • Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Certified in welding proficiencies through Visual & Fillet break or Radiography testing, Flux Core, Sub Arc, Tungsten Inert Gas and Gas Metal Arc welds in 1 through 6 Groove positions as well as welds in the 1 through 2 Fillet positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from a trade or welding institute is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads production employees in the welding department.
  • Trains staff in a variety of welding processes and methods to weld all types of metals to perform complete part fabrication in compliance with company quality standards.
  • Completes performance evaluations on department employees.
  • Maintains the welding schedule.
  • Exercise independent judgment in the layout, fabrication and selection of tools, materials, supplies, and equipment required to complete an assigned task.
  • Completes fit-up of structure, pipe, accessories and tanks.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
  • Identify various metals and alloys such as mild & high strength steel, aluminum, and stainless as well as identify structural shapes.
  • Use measuring devices and gauges to determine thickness and size of metal.
  • Use an oxygen/acetylene torch for cutting metals.
  • Use a grinder and other hand or power tools required to grind, bevel, fit metals together, or remove slag.
  • Read and follow blueprints to determine structure or fit of parts that are being welded and are in compliance with the Method of Production Standard.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follow prescribed safety procedures.
  • Follow and instruct MOP, SWI, MES Station and Epicor.
  • Ability to safely operate and train to operate forklift.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
