Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Welder to join our team in the weld department. This hands-on role involves welding structural shapes, plate, and light gauge components in both the weld shop, weld structure on the shop floor, and providing assistance when needed to ancillary weld. The Lead Welder will play a key role in ensuring Safety, Quality, and Productivity throught the welding operations while assuming the majority of the responsibility for training new employees, and contributing to a positive work environment.

Requirements

• Proven experience in welding, preferably in structural or modular fabrication.
• Proficiency in MIG welding techniques, flux-core and hardwire.
• Ability to read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, and technical drawings and weld manual.
• Familiarity with welding equipment setup and maintenance.
• Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• One year certificate from college or technical school, or six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

• Leadership experience or aptitude for mentoring others is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Select and prepare electrodes or consumable wire for welding operations.
• Set up and connect welding equipment according to specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse settings.
• Initiate power supply and strike arc to generate heat for welding.
• Manually guide electrode or welding gun along weld lines, maintaining proper arc length and movement speed.
• Perform welds primarily in flat position, with growing proficiency in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Inspect welds for bead size, fusion depth, and adherence to specifications.
• Clean and prepare weld joints and workpieces; remove slag, spatter, and excess weld material.
• Assist in positioning and clamping components using jigs or fixtures.
• Tack assemblies and ensure proper alignment before final welding.
• Safely operate welding-related equipment including plasma cutters, torches, grinders, and jib cranes.
• Maintain forklift certification and operate forklifts as needed for material handling.
• Promote a safe, productive, and respectful work environment focused on quality and customer satisfaction.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and provide guidance to welding team members.
