BAE Systems is seeking a Weld Engineering Technologist that provides engineering and technical support for welding operations in fabrication/manufacture of products. You will be responsible for applying principles of welding and materials science to the development, and manufacturing of the welded assemblies in our portfolio. Researches and applies our specifications to process development. Consumable tracking and compliance. Prepares, conducts, and evaluates Weld Engineering analysis/documentation, test/examination, performance and procedure qualification in compliance with customer requirements and applicable welding standards and specifications. The Welding Engineering Technologist provides support to the Manufacturing Engineers supporting the welding processes and operations in the Weapons Systems portfolio.

Requirements

  • Background in Welding, Weld Engineering Technology, and 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of NDT inspection techniques, processes, and interpretation of results.
  • Experience in SAW, GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding processes.
  • Experience in writing technical documentation for production operations and consumable tracking
  • Capable of working with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant business applications.
  • Understanding of equipment and technologies relevant to welding and Weld Engineering.
  • Ability to assist and support in solving complex technical problems in operations
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers to solve moderately complex technical problems.
  • Understanding of welding specifications such as AWS, ASME, or NAVSEA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as Oracle.
  • Certification with AWS as a CWI or other relevant certification.
  • Associate's degree in an Engineering Discipline preferably welding or similar field
  • NDT Level II certification.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688, and T9074-AS-GIB-010/271

Responsibilities

  • Assists in selecting weld equipment and consumables.
  • Prepares and conducts weld engineering analysis of materials and procedures, engaged in weld procedure and performance qualifications.
  • Uses knowledge of welding to assist department in non-conformance tracking and defect prevention.
  • Reviews supplier capability and suitability to provide acceptable product and comply with government specifications.
  • Contributes to the creation of welding standards and specifications.
  • Assists in addressing non-conformances and assists in Root Cause and Corrective Action activities.
  • Develops and writes technical documentation, revises existing documentation, and provides input to technical papers or presentations.
  • Support of onsite weld school.
  • Develops work documentation for tracking, certification, and procurement of weld consumables
  • Supports Supply Chain and new Suppliers with onboarding, on site visits, and compliance
  • Support Supplier Quality with Supplier Audits
  • Interface with vendors for support with equipment, consumables, and process development
  • Conducts or assists with testing of new gases, consumables, or materials
  • Will be instrumental in new process development and PQR submittals
  • Work with the production staff on new process implementation.
  • Ability to adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment.
