About The Position

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the part-time Welcome Center Specialist position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1). This is a part-time position (up to 50% FTE) that monitors the daily facility users and visitors to Brown’s Recreation Facilities. This position will require afternoon/evening and/or night availability and will be subject to shift adjustments at the discretion of the Associate AD for Recreation. This position acts as an ambassador of the Division of Athletics & Recreation to the Brown community, which consists of Brown students, faculty, staff, alumni, emeritus, athletic coaches, administrators, RISD students and faculty, and the general community population of Rhode Island.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to elicit and disperse information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Extremely dependable and flexible.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, conflict resolution and facility management skills
  • Computer skills: Including but not limited to rec management system, Internet searches, word, excel, e-mail communication.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR PRO/First Aid/AED certification (will be provided by the division)
  • The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background check satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.
  • All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties.
  • Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).

Responsibilities

  • Check Brown ID Holders & Recreational Pass Holders for membership validity.
  • Open and/or close the facilities.
  • Assist with the communication and verification of Recreation/Fitness members.
  • Meet and greet all members and visitors.
  • Will require computer skills for communication and software usage.
  • Answer telephone
  • Greet campus visitors
  • Contact emergency personnel when necessary.
  • Distribute recreational equipment to recreation members.
  • Assist customers with online membership registration.
  • Distribute keys to facilities in coordination with respective coaches’ and student groups’ facility reservations
  • Report any maintenance issues to staff at the Nelson Fitness Center, Coleman Aquatics Center, OMAC, Pizzitola, Meehan and Indoor Turf Facility.
  • Maintain open communications with day-to-day activities in the facilities that match the facility schedule.
  • Report any unauthorized use of the recreation facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by division leadership.
