About The Position

The Webmaster and SharePoint Administrator serves as the primary architect, manager, and steward of VDEM’s digital presence, ensuring that all public‑facing websites and internal SharePoint environments are accurate, secure, accessible, and aligned with the agency’s mission. This position supports emergency preparedness and response by delivering modern, reliable, user‑centered web platforms; overseeing content governance and workflows; providing technical development and administration for web and SharePoint systems; and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure continuous improvement, compliance with state and federal accessibility standards, and seamless digital communication across the organization.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive web design principles.
  • Experience managing SharePoint environments, including site configuration and content workflows.
  • Familiarity with modern CMS platforms and best practices for content governance.
  • Strong understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508) and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to analyze web metrics and translate data into actionable improvements.
  • Graphic design skills using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Ability to train and support non-technical staff.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Web Management: Develop and maintain VDEM’s public-facing websites and internal SharePoint intranet, ensuring content accuracy, usability, and compliance with state and federal accessibility standards (WCAG/Section 508).
  • Content Governance: Establish and enforce content workflows, approval processes, and publishing standards to maintain consistency and quality across distributed contributors.
  • Technical Development: Build, troubleshoot, and optimize web pages using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; implement responsive design principles for mobile compatibility.
  • CMS Administration: Manage content updates through modern Content Management Systems (CMS), ensuring efficient workflows and version control.
  • SharePoint Leadership: Serve as the primary content administrator for VDEM’s SharePoint environment, including site architecture, permissions, document libraries, and page design.
  • Analytics & Optimization: Utilize tools such as Google Analytics to monitor site performance, user engagement, and traffic trends; provide actionable insights to improve content and navigation.
  • Visual Design: Create and edit graphics, banners, and other visual assets using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) to enhance user experience and brand consistency.
  • Security & Compliance: Collaborate with IT Security to ensure websites meet cybersecurity standards and data protection requirements.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination: Manage relationships with external vendors for hosting, design, and technical support; work closely with internal teams to align web initiatives with agency priorities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with web technologies, accessibility guidelines, and best practices to recommend enhancements and future-proof VDEM’s digital platforms.
