Web Press - Rolltenders support the press crew. Though not limited to the following, primary responsibilities include running and maintaining the press and folder and training others. The position is a 12-hour 2-2-3 shift from 7am to 7pm. Essential functions include working with crewmembers in operating the press and folder, cleaning and maintaining equipment, changing paper rolls, and performing other assigned duties, ensuring maintenance activities are thoroughly accomplished and documented. The Rolltender consistently inspects for and maintains a high quality of web work, working with the Crew Leader to ensure all running samples are pulled, inspected, and initialed, and that sample copies are of the highest quality. They must follow all SOPs and ensure others on the crew do also, informing the Crew Leader or training (correcting) individuals as appropriate when violations or errors are made. The role also involves verifying press counts by checking autocount to the counters and initialing packing slips, ensuring all autocount printouts and computer entries are correct and accurate. Rolltenders are expected to keep the entire press area clean at all times, both during production runs and down time, efficiently using resources and instructing others. Successful completion of the department’s training program is required, and they must ensure safety policies and procedures are met, including PPEs, ergonomics, and chemical hazards, especially when functioning in the Crew Leader’s or 1st Operator’s absences. They maintain a rotation among crewmembers to each workstation on the press, work where directed (on varying presses or in other departments), and must be at their workstation 5 minutes before the start of the shift. Administrative responsibilities, either at the Crew Leader’s direction or in their absence, include assigning or directing the work of crewmembers, assisting in the administration of maintenance programs, tasks, and associated paperwork (e.g., information concerning press runs, paper consumption, and waste), training crew members, and following the department’s maintenance program. They must read, understand, and follow the entire work order of every job and ensure that all discrepancies are resolved.
