Web Designer, Communications and Marketing Services

Foundation for California Community Colleges
6d$70,000 - $75,000Remote

About The Position

We are seeking a Web Designer to join the Foundation in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation. The Foundation for California Community Colleges is on a mission to double its impact in the next 10 years. We are a group of relentless optimists and innovators in education, working collaboratively with public and private partners to help improve the student experience and expand pathways to economic and social mobility in communities across California. What You’ll Do The Web Designer is a UX/UI-forward web role on the Creative Team within the Communications and Marketing Services Unit, working alongside designers and Communications and Marketing Services specialists to bridge design and development and carry approved work from Figma into the live experience. The role leads responsive page design, interaction and motion specifications, and build-ready documentation, partnering with Tech Solutions during implementation to ensure high-fidelity execution. This is not a developer role. It is a design role for someone who understands how modern websites and digital experiences are built and can serve as an informed partner and creative lead throughout development. The Web Designer translates that build knowledge into design decisions, cleaner handoffs, faster iteration, and stronger outcomes across complex, stakeholder-driven projects supporting FoundationCCC’s 70+ programs and partners. The Web Designer also brings interaction and motion expertise to strengthen clarity, movement, and modern user actions across our web experiences, while contributing design capacity to broader digital and campaign work as needed. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Associate Director of Marketing and Creative Services, working closely with cross-functional teams to strategically align copy, design, and implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in UX/UI design, web design, graphic design, HCI, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with developers through implementation (not just handoff), including iterative review and pre-launch verification.
  • UX/UI fundamentals: information architecture, user flows, interaction design, component systems, and usability-minded decision-making.
  • Strong web design fundamentals: typography, hierarchy, grid systems, responsive design patterns, and content-first layout thinking.
  • Proficiency in Figma: components, auto layout, variants, libraries, prototyping, and file documentation.
  • Strong interaction and motion-for-web fundamentals, including micro-interactions, UI transitions, component state systems, and purposeful movement that supports user understanding.
  • Working knowledge of front-end development concepts and constraints: semantic HTML, CSS layout (flexbox/grid), and common JavaScript-driven UI behaviors.
  • Comfort partnering with developers in iterative build environments, including staging review cycles and clear issue documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead UX/UI and page-level web design in Figma, translating requirements into clear, accessible, responsive experiences aligned to user needs and program goals.
  • Design scalable page sections and reusable components, maintaining organized, build-ready Figma files and documentation that supports efficient handoff.
  • Define interaction and motion behaviors for web experiences, including component states, transitions, and micro-interactions that support clear user action and understanding.
  • Partner with Tech Solutions developers throughout implementation, participating in working sessions to resolve constraints and ensure high-fidelity execution from design through launch.
  • Collaborate with Project Marketing Specialists and program teams to clarify goals, audiences, content needs, and page success criteria, and to incorporate feedback efficiently.
