About The Position

Texas A&M Health is seeking a Web Designer to join our growing Web Services team. This role is focused on the visual and user-experience aspects of our websites, helping modernize and migrate over 100 sites into the new Aggie UX (HAUX) design framework. Works closely with Lead Developer to ensure sites are visually compelling, accessible, and responsive across devices—while adhering to university branding and design standards. This is a front-end focused position with significant impact on how users experience the university’s digital presence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 4 years of experience in web development/programming with relational databases to produce dynamic web-based applications.

  • Experience in consulting and/or strategy of web development/programming and in responsive web development.

Responsibilities

  • Web Functionality Development Plans and develops new web functionality and applications
  • Gathers and analyzes requirements from university departments and staff.
  • Develops locally-created tools that facilitate the use of the university website.
  • Writes code to implement functionality and design components while automating processes.
  • Ensures all web functions are accessibility compliant
  • Maintenance and Support of Web Applications Maintains current web functionality and applications
  • Corrects arising issues within web functionality as needed.
  • Enhances web functionality through regular communication with university personnel.
  • Provides support and maintenance on all current functionality and applications.
  • Performs debugging and periodic audits to ensure accessibility compliance.
  • Team Collaboration Implement responsive and accessible web pages using the Aggie UX (HAUX) design system within Cascade CMS.
  • Convert mockups and designs (e.g., Figma) into polished HTML/CSS structures, using semantically correct markup.
  • Ensure layouts and components meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Assist in preparing, placing, and styling content as part of our multi-year migration project.
  • Collaborate with developers and content owners to identify layout issues, accessibility problems, or inconsistent design elements.
  • Participate in design reviews, usability evaluations, and QA testing.
  • Maintain consistency with TAMU branding guidelines and HAUX component use.
  • Document best practices for content styling and layout within the CMS environment Research and Recommendations for Technology
  • Researches and recommends emerging application development technologies and tools for implementation in Web Services projects.
  • Evaluates new technologies and assesses their applicability to university needs.
  • User Support and Training Provides instruction and troubleshooting to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Performs usability and user-experience development and testing.
