About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking a hands-on Weapons Systems Test and Evaluation Engineer to design, execute, and analyze component and subsystem reliability tests in support of next-generation products. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with practical experience in thermal, vibration, and accelerated life testing. This role involves close collaboration with design engineers and cross-functional teams, with regular travel to offsite test facilities. Internal and external technicians and engineers work together in cross-functional teams where they are likely to develop close collegial relationships built on trust and integrity. This is an on-site position with approximately 25% travel to support testing. We work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field and 4+ years relevant experience.
  • Experience with at least one of these areas: reliability test planning, HALT/HASS, Reliability-Growth, and accelerated life testing methods.
  • Experience with system-level validation.
  • Working knowledge of reliability statistics and data analysis (Weibull, MTTF)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on lab and field test environment.
  • Strong clear verbal and written communication.
  • Experience developing test plans, coordinating test support requirements across multiple disciplines, and test reporting in support of the precision guided munitions product line and associated systems and sub-systems.
  • Experience in field assignments and associated travel and operations austere test locations.
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • We may consider candidates with fewer years of experience for a more junior role or additional experience for a more senior role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience interfacing with customers on significant technical matters.
  • Master's degree in engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in component, subsystem, or reliability testing.
  • Proficiency with common test and measurement tools (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, DAQs, thermocouples, multimeters).
  • Exposure to FMEA, fault tree analysis (FTA), or similar methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Understanding of heat transfer, thermal systems, and mechanical stress testing.
  • Ability to design or adapt custom fixtures and test setups.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments methodology.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implements testing methods and equipment
  • Plan and arrange the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices
  • Provide test area with parameters for sample testing and specify tests to be performed
  • Compile data and define changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements
  • Develop and execute component and subsystem test plans to evaluate functionality, performance, and reliability
  • Define accelerated life test (ALT), HALT, HASS, and ESS methodologies aligned with physics-of-failure principles
  • Perform reliability modeling, Weibull analysis, MTBF calculations, and life prediction assessments
  • Lead test setup design, instrumentation planning, and data acquisition (thermal, vibration, and electrical)
  • Conduct hands-on testing including thermal cycling, vibration, fatigue, and electrical endurance tests
  • Perform root cause and failure analysis (RCA/FMEA) and drive corrective actions with design teams
  • Travel to and oversee testing at external labs and proving grounds (25% of the time)
  • Maintain compliance with safety and quality standards, including electrical and thermal test protocols
  • Document and present test results to stakeholders through technical reports and reliability reviews
  • Support development of in-house test infrastructure
