DESCRIPTION Ability to learn the multiple phases of core making on both large core bench and small core bench. Activities will include placing boxes on conveyors either with over-head crane, forklift or by hand, preparing boxes for fill, determining adequate number of rods and hooks, operating sand mixer, filling boxes and ramming as required. Learn to set and secure change pieces, loose pieces, ram up cores, and chills if necessary. Must be able learn how to finish most cores by pulling vanes or loose pieces and smoothing rough edges. Ability to learn how to apply adequate thickness of core wash and dry jobs as required. Learn to paste and assemble core sections as required. Work closely as part of a team in the making of cores as necessary. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Maintain good housekeeping practices and habits while encouraging the same from coworkers. Exhibits safe execution of all tasks and duties. Work collaboratively with company supervision to meet company goals. AND/OR Ability to learn how to perform most phases of molding in both floor molding and on the figure 9 molding line. Activities include operating sand mixer, preparing jobs for fill, placement of riser sleeves, ramming, and striking off excess sand. Must have the ability to learn how to run the roll-a-draw to remove mold from pattern on figure 9 molding line. Learn of the make and variety of molds for small, medium, and large sized castings, with no exception based on complexity. Must be able to learn how to be able to properly locate pattern and flask, set gaggers, tuck, and shovel molding sand into flask. Learn how to set and secure loose pieces, ram up cores, and chills if necessary. Must be able to learn how to properly vent, strike off, cut pouring basin, lift cope, using over-head crane, if necessary, draw pattern, ability to roll any flask set regardless of size and move mold to pouring location. Learn how to patch and repair mold, cut gates, and reinforce joint if necessary. Ability to learn how to apply adequate thickness of mold wash and dry jobs as required. Learn how to set cores, anchor cores, determine appropriate medium and thickness of rope seal or glue, close mold, clamp mold and weight mold if necessary. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Maintain good housekeeping practices and habits while encouraging the same from coworkers. Exhibits safe execution of all tasks and duties. Work collaboratively with company supervision to meet company goals. COMPLEXITY AND JUDGMENT Work is largely routine and repetitive in following established core making and molding practices. Ability to learn to read and work from Foundry Engineering methods, sketches, shop cards and blueprints is required Follow clearly prescribed standard practice in the operation of the system to ensure top quality molds and cores. Due to the variety of tasks and varying work matter, skill and judgment are required in the application of molding practice, sand condition, properly cutting gating, ramming, and venting.
