About The Position

Join us as our next Watershed Program Manager and help drive innovative water resource initiatives forward! The Planning and Development Services Department provides opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth. You will be working with a team of scientists and engineers of many background, brining expertise and experience from various sectors, government, industry and academia, with a passion to protect the environment. The Watershed Management Division strives for first‐class service delivery and continued national recognition by making contributions that have broader impacts and implications beyond the County. The Watershed Management program is an integral part of the Division. As the Watershed Program Manager, you will have the opportunity to rapidly learn, lead and participate in projects that support the nationally recognized and award-winning Watershed Management Division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
  • Five years of experience in environmental health, environmental planning, inspections or engineering
  • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Organized, detail-oriented, with solid analytical, computer and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical groups, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent ability to identify performance measures and take action to improve and maintain high-quality, competitive core services
  • Excellent ability to collaborate with stakeholders on projects both within and outside the organization
  • Excellent skills in completing work and projects involving multiple people and organizations
  • Advanced ability to help others understand and achieve organizational goals
  • Excellent knowledge of customer service principles, including needs assessment, quality standards and satisfaction evaluation
  • Excellent knowledge of rules, design principles and methods to control sedimentation and erosion and mitigate stormwater runoff
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers and scientists with technical expertise in plan review, erosion and sedimentation control and stormwater management

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in engineering, environmental science, law, geology, business, or related area
  • NCPE – North Carolina Professional Engineer’s (PE) License upon hire or the ability to obtain through comity
