About The Position

The Lifeguard Supervisor 2, under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, is responsible for overseeing aquatic activities and lifeguard staff at Cleveland Metroparks Hinckley Spillway, and Wallace Lake locations. The Lifeguard Supervisor 2 provides direction and guidance to lifeguards to prevent injuries and increase guest safety by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. Assists the Aquatics manager in ensuring effective performance of lifeguard functions and guest safety through training and evaluating lifeguard staff and coaching employees in proper job performance techniques and procedures. Provides work direction and reports employee complaints and disciplinary matters to Aquatics Manager. Completes bi-weekly schedule for lifeguards. Facilitates and participates in mandatory in-service trainings. Inspects facility and equipment for safety and cleanliness; completes general facility cleaning duties. Completes reports and records as required. Performs lifeguard functions as needed. Ensures that all rules and regulations are being adhered to by guests and employees. Monitors activities in and near the water through patron surveillance within designated guarded swim areas. Rescues distressed persons using rescue techniques and equipment. Examines injured persons and administers first aid, if necessary, using training and medical supplies and equipment. Contacts emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel. Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one season working as a lifeguard at Cleveland Metroparks, or previous supervisory experience at an outside aquatics' facility/organization.
  • Candidates must be certified or become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding r.24. If not certified, training is available through Cleveland Metroparks in May.
  • To work at a waterfront location, candidates must pass a waterfront lifeguard training module, conducted in-house by Cleveland Metroparks.
  • Lifeguard Supervisor Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years old by first date of employment.
  • Candidates are subject to fingerprinting and a background check.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
