About The Position

The Water safety Instructor teaches and plans swim lessons under the general supervision of the pool Manager or Lead Lifeguard. Essential Functions Plans swimming lessons, and instructs and evaluates participants enrolled in the Learn to swim program at municipal swimming pools to provide swimming and water safety training. Assists with special events, swim meets, and other events including supervising special events to ensure such activities proceed in a safe manner. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports to ensure effective program evaluation. Inspects pool equipment such as ladders, diving boards, and guard stands to maintain a safe facility. Communicates with the general public regarding lessons and answers questions that might arise about services provided, swimming and water safety. Maintains records, reports injuries, accidents and assistance rendered to patrons to maintain proper files. Cleans pool, pool area and restrooms and inspects pool equipment such as ladders, diving boards and guard stand to maintain a clean and safe facility. Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Water Safety instructor certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to swim
  • Ability to teach swimming lessons and safety procedures to others as required under the learn to swim program.
  • Ability to keep records pertaining to teaching of swimming lessons and enforce water safety rules.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of management, city officials, vendors, other government agencies, other employees and the general public.
  • None
  • ARC Water Safety Instructor required before fulfilling Water Safety Instructor specific responsibilities.
