Job Summary Performs entry-level carpentry maintenance and construction work on City facilities to maintain the buildings and structures in good repair. Job Description Overview The Carpenter performs entry-level carpentry maintenance and construction work on City facilities and spaces to maintain the buildings, public areas, and structures in good repair.

Requirements

Knowledge of power tools and their proper usage.
Basic knowledge of construction practices.
Basic knowledge of general carpentry and woodworking
Must be able to use carpenter's hand tools, saws, and electric sanders
Ability to read blueprints.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
One (1) year of carpentry and/or general construction experience.
Valid driver's license with good driving record.
Subject to overtime work and inclement weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Assists, supports, and participates in carpentry work with crew chief in the fabrication and maintenance of wood structures and equipment; assembles stages and risers for special events, provides maintenance and wood working expertise for structures, and performs other carpentry skills.
Participates in various building maintenance activities including repair and replacement of doors, frames and locks, masonry repair, tile repair, modular office furniture, and rest room partition repair; ensures safe, effective, and fully operational facilities and equipment.
Installs and repairs chain link fences to ensure fences are functional, monitors and repairs park structures and other wood facilities.
Assists with carpentry maintenance including minor cabinetmaking, woodwork, and minor drywall work to make needed building repairs or additions.
Constructs barricades to provide traffic control at public events; performs concrete work to construct sidewalks and retainer walls.
Calculates bids and determines carpentry supplies, reads floorplans, and measures jobs.
Assists with other trades as needed to maintain and repair buildings or structures; provides assistance and support with seasonal maintenance of facilities ensuring good repair, safety, and functionality.
Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
