About The Position

The Swim Instructor is responsible for conducting swim lessons for both group and one-on-one private swim lessons. Lessons are conducted in the morning hours and may also be offered in the evening. This role involves instructing and developing athletes, designing and implementing training programs, providing instruction and feedback, and fostering a positive and competitive environment for athletes.

Requirements

  • Has American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or willing to obtain
  • Has American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid, CRP/AED or willing to obtain
  • Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain focus in a high-volume, fast paced environment
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Have a thorough understanding of swimming fundamentals, progressions, and techniques for swimmers of all ages
  • Must be willing to teach swimmers of all abilities, including students with increased needs

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a valid American Red Cross Water Safety certification, a valid American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification, and a valid American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens certification
  • Teach swimming and water safety skills to students of all ages and abilities, following the curriculum outlined by the American Red Cross
  • Utilize all teaching tools provided, complete attendance records, track students' progress, complete course completion cards, and submit all Red Cross Course Records
  • Teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals, and groups
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing participant performance and needs
  • Providing suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation
  • Demonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequence
  • Maintain participant safety through preventative instruction
  • Understand and enforce all rules and regulations
  • Always be in the water with each class for all levels
  • Check the area for safety hazards and try to eliminate them
  • Ensuring a safe environment for all participants
  • Implementing the lesson plans in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashion
  • All additional duties assigned by management
