We are seeking a highly motivated Water Resources Intern to join our team of experts. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the civil and environmental engineering industry. You will work alongside senior engineers and scientists on real-world projects that impact infrastructure, water quality, and community resilience throughout Virginia and the National Capital Area.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. Completed coursework in Fluid Mechanics, Hydrology, or Hydraulics is highly preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil3D and ArcGIS. Exposure to H&H software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or SWMM is a plus.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and analysis for storm drainage issues, floodplain studies, and dam safety.
  • Support the preparation of construction drawings and specifications for stormwater facilities, Green Infrastructure (GI), and Low Impact Development (LID) projects.
  • Occasionally support field investigations, including stormwater infrastructure inspections (MS4), illicit discharge detection, pond inspections, and stream assessments.
  • Utilize ArcGIS for mapping, data analysis, and watershed characterization.
  • Assist in the production of client deliverables, including technical memoranda, environmental permit applications, and engineering cost estimates.
  • Conduct background research on regulatory requirements (CWA, TMDL, MS4) and emerging water management technologies.
