About The Position

As a Water Resources Intern in Overland Park, Kansas, the candidate will work with the Water Resources Specialized Solutions team and serve as a resource on assigned projects. Project focus could include one or more of the following: Data analysis, reporting/writing, and presentation preparation. Geologic and hydrogeologic interpretations. Federal grant writing and applications. Planning level cost estimation of water infrastructure projects. Regional Water Planning with a focus on short- and long-term water supply strategy planning. Sustainable infrastructure design. Water supply feasibility evaluations including reuse and aquifer storage and recovery. Under close supervision, the candidate will perform routine aspects of the water resources practice such as engineering assignments and water supply studies requiring knowledge and application of basic hydrology principles. The candidate will build and apply knowledge of hydrologic or hydrogeologic principles to prescribed techniques and procedures to complete project assignments. The candidate will receive: Hands-on experience at an employee-owned engineering, procurement, consulting, and construction company. Learning opportunities through mentorship and co/lab trainings. Requirements

  • No experience required. Current enrollment in ABET accredited university in Civil Engineering program with emphasis in Structural, Environmental, Transportation, or Geotechnical. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

  • The preferred candidate is a current student majoring in biology, civil engineering (with a focus on water resources), ecology, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, geology/hydrogeology, hydrology, or a water resources management program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and design specifications and contract drawings
  • Perform variety of tasks to support engineering analyses, report production, and designs
  • Prepare basic calculations
  • Assist in basic equipment selection
  • Coordinate with other disciplines
  • Schedule project deliverables
  • Collect, organize, and evaluate data
  • Analyze systems utilizing computer modeling
  • Organize and file project materials and references
