About The Position

The Water Quality Technician supports the safe and reliable operation of the utility by performing sampling, testing, inspection, and analysis of water across the various water systems. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while helping maintain high-quality service for customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Environmental Science, Water Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in water quality, environmental sampling, laboratory testing, or utility operations preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Knowledge of EPA, state, and local regulations governing drinking water quality.
  • Ability to interpret test results, follow detailed procedures, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments and handle physical tasks such as lifting, walking, and climbing.
  • Ability to obtain a Sampler/Tester certification and Water Operator license.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Collect water samples from treatment facilities, distribution systems, wells, and other required locations following established procedures.
  • Conduct field and laboratory tests to assess water quality.
  • Document and maintain accurate sampling data, test results, and chain-of-custody records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor water system conditions and report abnormalities, potential concerns, or operational issues.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot sampling and testing equipment.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting, consumer confidence reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Support investigations of water quality complaints and customer inquiries.
  • Participate in inspections of facilities, tanks, and distribution lines related to water quality concerns.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety protocols, including chemical handling and field safety guidelines.
  • Assist with special projects such as flushing programs, field studies, and water quality improvement initiatives.
