The Water Conservation – Irrigation Plans Examiner and Inspector position requires a self-starter who enjoys engaging with customers, contractors and consultants. This position offers a seasonal mix of office and outdoor work while holding the responsibility of customer compliance with city ordinances. As a liaison to multiple city departments, candidates for this position must have excellent communication and customer service skills. Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Design, Irrigation Design, or related field preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in preparing construction document level irrigation plans
  • At least 2 years of experience in irrigation construction practices
  • Knowledge of water conservation methodologies, Colorado or western water issues
  • Knowledge of conflict management and communication strategies for interacting with the public
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to design and installation of irrigation systems
  • Must exhibit strong customer service skills, interpersonal communications and collaboration skills
  • Must be proficient at Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat PRO and AutoCAD
  • Must be proficient at time management and planning for task efficiency
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, developers, contractors and citizens
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand complex construction documents
  • Colorado driver’s license with a good driving history
  • Certified Irrigation Designer (CID) or comparable certification, or the ability to obtain it within six (6) months

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in water conservation or related field
  • A general knowledge of water-wise landscape principles
  • Knowledge of plant water requirements and weather impacts on irrigation systems preferred
  • Knowledge of water use data, including AMI, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review, provide comments and approve construction document level irrigation plans for compliance with city code
  • Perform residential irrigation and soil amendment inspections for compliance with code
  • Perform non-single-family irrigation inspections to ensure they conform to approved plans
  • Coordinate meetings with contractors to promote and educate on Aurora’s standards
  • Track inspection progress in city platform
  • Teach conservation education classes
  • Assist with Aurora Water Management Plan violation investigations
  • Respond to water conservation and landscape questions and inquiries
  • Act as liaison to contractor community
  • Seasonally, assist with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) driven leak investigations
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned
