About The Position

Under the general direction of the DCC Code Inspector Manager, this role assists in enforcing and applying building codes to ensure that construction and alteration projects comply with life safety and building system requirements. Performs construction document plan reviews and inspections for all newly constructed or modified facilities for code compliance of projects submitted by the Airport Board, Concessions, and Tenants for compliance with the International Code Council (ICC) family of model codes, DFW International Airport Design Criteria Manual (DCM), DFW International Airport Code Amendments for Construction, Federal and State Regulations, Construction Standards and FAA Regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architect.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in design, plan review, or field work in one or more relevant disciplines such as mechanical, building, structural, ADA, electrical, or plumbing. Must possess or be able to obtain within the first year of employment and maintain one or more of the following certifications or licenses: Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Registered or Certified A/C Technician License; International Code Council (ICC) Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certificate; ICC Mechanical Plans Examiner Certificate; ICC Fuel Gas Inspector Certificate; ICC Commercial Energy Inspector Certificate; ICC Commercial Energy Plans Examiner Certificate; ICC Commercial Combination Inspector Certificate; ICC Combination Plans Examiner Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and national codes and regulations related to design and construction in one or more disciplines, such as mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, fuel gas, energy conservation, accessibility (ADA), structural, and general building systems. Familiarity with model codes, such as those published by the ICC or similar code organizations, is preferred
  • Ability to detect and correct non-complying items during construction document plan review and through inspection of the in-progress or finished work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious internal and external working relationships.
  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or certifications in multiple code disciplines (e.g., mechanical, building, structural, ADA, electrical, or plumbing) is highly desirable and considered a plus.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Share Point) and municipal building department permitting software systems.
  • Experience using Apple iPad.
  • Experience using Blue Beam and Adobe Acrobat applications.
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams application and Outlook email application.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Designers, Engineers, Project Managers, Stakeholders, QA Construction Inspectors and Contractors to ensure efficient and effective compliance of DFW International Airport construction projects with adopted ICC family of model codes, DFW International Airport Design Criteria Manual (DCM), and DFW International Airport Code Amendments for Construction through construction document plan review and construction inspections.
  • Performs construction document plan reviews and construction inspections in one designated discipline, such as mechanical, building, structural, ADA, electrical, or plumbing.
  • Ensures Airport facilities comply with FAA Regulations and other mandated design standards.
  • Records and documents inspection, plan review and testing results. Issues deficiency reports and monitors remedial work. Records re-inspection and retesting results. Ensures correction of all construction document plan review and inspection deficiencies.
  • Keeps abreast of new code changes and materials. Provides technical assistance as it relates to code interpretation and conformance, constructability, and quality assurance at each project phase from design through final inspection.
  • Supports the permitting process by ensuring submitted documents meet code and airport-specific requirements prior to permit issuance.
  • Performs field investigations to resolve code-related disputes or address unanticipated construction issues.
