About The Position

Under supervision, intakes and reviews construction documents for compliance with all applicable laws, codes and rules and assists inspection personnel as needed for on-site compliance with City Ordinances.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one year of experience in public relations or high public contact.
  • Must obtain the ICC Residential Plans Examiner and International Energy Conservation Code certifications within one year of employment.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required or must be obtained within 2 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use written reference material for Code, standards, and references.
  • Basic typing, drafting and mathematical skills.
  • Must have written and verbal skills necessary to understand and communicate technical requirements to the public.
  • Knowledge of basic construction standards.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including fax machine, copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
  • Ability to operate highly technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • The employee must also walk, climb, crawl, crouch, stand, kneel, sit, hear, reach, speak, see, and talk.
  • Also requires the ability to make rational decisions and perform repetitive motions.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts plan intake for various types of plans including commercial and residential plans; logs plans into the computer system and tracks the plan review through the process.
  • Reviews construction documents to verify compliance with applicable City Ordinances and issuance of building, roofing, wrecking, and other types of permits.
  • Assists the public via phone, email and in person by providing information for permits, licenses, and other requirements and policies of the City.
  • Responds to inquiries and confers with builders, engineers, contractors, architects, and the public concerning submittal requirements, code and permit regulations at the counter and over the phone.
  • Issues Sign Permits, Manufactured Home Permits, Certificates of Occupancy Permits, Wrecking Permits and licenses transient businesses.
  • Makes address assignments.
  • Maintains base maps, plat files and street address databases.
  • Performs field inspections for compliance with City Ordinances as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
