About The Position

The Water and Wastewater Treatment Operator operates and oversees drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities and components. Duties include conducting routine water and wastewater tests, entering data, collecting regulatory samples, making process control decisions when authorized, and performing basic maintenance and repairs. The role requires maintaining relevant certifications, adherence to safety guidelines, maintaining facility cleanliness, and availability for on-call emergencies. Requirements

  • Ability and commitment to maintain required water/wastewater certifications, or to obtain the necessary certifications with the goal of becoming a certified Operator.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Possession of a valid state driver’s license and a history of responsible driving.
  • Candidates will undergo background screening and motor vehicle record checks as part of the hiring process.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid New Hampshire Grade 1 Wastewater or Grade 3 Water certification. We are also open to training the right candidate who is committed to obtaining these certifications.
  • Technical or mechanical experience.
  • Proficiency with computers and software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine water and wastewater tests, perform daily observations and lab tests, and collect regulatory samples and meter readings with the highest level of integrity and accuracy.
  • Enter test results and readings into the logbook and data management system, ensuring data integrity and timeliness; report abnormalities to manager.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues as instructed and report needed repairs (e.g., pumps, valves, motors, blowers).
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on equipment under the manager’s direction.
  • Track lab supplies, chemicals and other consumables; inform the manager when supplies need replenishing for uninterrupted operations.
  • Assist teammates, and train and direct staff as needed to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization at the facility, including waste removal, sweeping, mopping, and groundskeeping (e.g., mowing, snow removal).
  • Follow all safety guidelines and procedures, and report safety concerns.
  • Respond to on-call emergencies within a 30-minute timeframe when scheduled.
  • Report issues, concerns, or operational changes to the assigned manager promptly.
  • If authorized, serve as the "Operator in Responsible Charge," overseeing the compilation and submission of regulatory reports under the manager's direction.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support the overall operations and objectives of the organization.
