About The Position

Performs maintenance functions at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, and main pump station. Maintains records of repairs and material used and assists Plant Operators when necessary and contractors. Works as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator when required and assists Lift Station Maintenance when necessary. Works in various weather conditions with possible exposure to odors, fumes, dust, toxic conditions, and risk of bodily injury and does other related work. Maintains maintenance schedule on all equipment. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience with mechanical pumps, maintenance of conveyors, compressors, blowers, valves, chlorinators, and other complex equipment found in wastewater treatment
  • Works with cleaning fluids, paints, cleaning agents, and chemical using only normal protective equipment
  • Work cooperatively with other city employees, comply with the Utility Safety Program and Confined Space Entry Procedures, and work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others, ability to work alone with minimum supervision
  • Required to have high school diploma or GED
  • Valid West Virginia driver's license
  • Ability to comprehend the operation of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Good physical condition
  • Incumbents of this position shall obtain a Class I Wastewater Treatment Works Operator Certification within one year from the date of hire
  • Incumbents of this position shall also obtain Class II, III, and IV Wastewater Treatment Works Operator Certifications within the timeframe as established by the West Virginia Bureau of Public Health Rules

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to welders/industrial maintenance experience and persons with Class A or B Commercial Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of skilled maintenance duties: all areas of the Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment, pump repairs, pump installations, equipment preventative maintenance such as changing oil, filters, belts and proper alignment of equipment.
  • Works as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator; when required; maintains records of repairs; materials, parts, etc. used
  • Operates a city vehicle
  • Assists other utility departments in repairs of equipment or systems as required
  • Attends schools, workshops, seminars as recommended by management
  • Advises supervisor of problems and needs
  • Works on instrumentation, monitors, and process control computer
  • Works rotating weekend shifts and overtime when necessary
