About The Position

Reporting to the IBU Production Supervisor, the Wastewater Operator is a critical production role within the Ingredient Department. This position is responsible for the hands-on operation of a non-municipal wastewater pre-treatment plant and related equipment in accordance with manufacturer requirements, company SOPs, quality standards, and all applicable State and Federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Forklift certification (required)
  • Ability to safely manage and handle hazardous chemicals
  • Willingness to work long hours as needed
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions, including hot and humid climates
  • Ability to work in hazardous or industrial environments while following safety procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly after training
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor a non-municipal wastewater pre-treatment system
  • Document daily water, wastewater, and utility readings throughout the plant
  • Determine chemical dosages and adjust treatment processes as needed
  • Maintain accurate daily operation logs, records, and hazardous waste documentation
  • Safely receive bulk chemicals delivered via tanker and supervise unloading
  • Dispense hazardous bulk chemicals from large tanks into totes, drums, or buckets for production use
  • Perform wastewater start-up and shutdown procedures after training
  • Handle wastewater pressed solids, including forklift transfer of bins to waste trailers
  • Coordinate solids disposal with contracted waste haulers
  • Conduct light maintenance and preventative maintenance, including chemical pump maintenance, greasing, cleaning, and completion of weekly work orders
  • Perform yard and facility duties such as sweeping, general cleanup, and maintaining waste oil recycling areas
  • Conduct chemical management activities including pH testing, neutralization, and spill response
  • Report spills, cleanups, and safety incidents promptly
  • Act effectively in emergency situations
  • Ensure all job functions meet Quality Policy requirements and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards
  • Maintain compliance with corporate and plant safety policies, regulatory requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
