About The Position

DUTIES: The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform skilled maintenance and service work on City utility service lines and systems, operating heavy and light equipment, troubleshooting problems and implementing solutions, performing system tests to ensure the integrity and quality of operations, conducting work inspections, interacting courteously with customers and ensuring the safety of staff and public in accordance with city, federal and state requirements, completing and maintaining logs, records and files, and providing recommendations for department policies and procedures. This position works under the direct supervision of the Lead Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and the general direction of the Wastewater Superintendent. QUALIFICATIONS: OPERATOR I: Required Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent, including training or course work in municipal sanitary sewer systems or storm drain systems and one years' experience in the maintenance, repair, construction or sewer systems or storm drains. Valid State of Utah driver's license at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter. Valid State of Utah certification as a Wastewater Collections Operator Grade I at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter. Must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire. Desired Special Qualifications Two years college level course work in wastewater technology, environmental sciences, microbiology, chemistry, or mathematics. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, standard first-aid/CPR certification within six-months of employment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Flagging Card within six-months of employment. OPERATOR II : Required Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent, including training or in municipal sanitary sewer systems or storm drain systems and two years' experience in the maintenance, repair, construction or sewer systems or storm drains. Valid State of Utah driver's license at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter. Valid State of Utah certification as a Wastewater Collections Plant Operator Grade II at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter. Must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire. Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator : Valid State of Utah certification as a Wastewater Collections Operator Grade III at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter. A minimum of three years' experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant combined with education. Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator : Valid State of Utah certification as a Wastewater Collections Grade IV at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter. A minimum of four years' experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
