About The Position

The Warehouse Operator position is an individual contributor position who supports the Small Parts department reporting to the Shift Supervisor. This role is responsible for the accurate handling, movement, and documentation of materials and products within a manufacturing environment to ensure efficient production flow and inventory accuracy by using computers; stationary and hand held to be used throughout the shift daily. Responds to direct two-way radio requests from departments, using good judgment in prioritizing calls. Must use good judgment in inspection of loads for damage and proper handling. May be required to assist with functions in other department areas and may work irregular hours. Maintains good housekeeping and exercises precautions for safety operation of all equipment.

Requirements

  • High awareness for safety with the ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work in a non-temperature controlled environment, as well as with exposure to outdoors
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to spend 90% of workday standing or walking, and 10% stooping

  • Educational Background: Must be able to clearly understand, follow, and communicate written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be proficient in the reading of specifications and bills of material.
  • Must be able to perform the computer functions / transactions required by the department timely and effectively.
  • Job Training Skill Development: Must be able to perform satisfactorily all functions of this position within 6 months of starting this position.
  • Must obtain valid Valmont forklift Operator License for all forklifts used in the position.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of previous experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing/outside environment
  • Experience in moving materials around a warehouse and/or storage yard
  • Prior experience with computers in inventory management systems
  • Computer Software: Outlook IFS Zebra Mii SKILL

Responsibilities

  • Move and document materials/products to maintain inventory accuracy
  • Store and label physical steel inventory to maintain accuracy
  • Interpret production and shipping orders to ensure proper material handling
  • Perform inventory cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies
  • Maintain and care for tools and equipment
  • Follow all safety procedures and actively participate in safety practices
  • Makes decisions regarding moving, receiving and storing material
  • Working from the direction of the supervisor, the job requires the movement of materials from inbound freight to work stations or to storage areas.
  • The associate must enter data and complete required reports in a timely fashion.
  • Associate must have computer skills and familiar with IFS and Zebra capabilities with handheld materials and desktop computers.
  • Receiving-in inbound inventory for current and upcoming orders
  • Assist when available for material staging
  • Must have legible writing for communication on materials and BOLs (Bill of Ladings)
  • Daily crane inspections
  • Ability to enter in various data into IFS system
  • Match incoming parts to paper documents to verify part numbers, size quantity, inspect for damage and report all discrepancies
  • Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping
  • Follow material list to kit loads effectively
  • Perform audits by comparing records with actual physical materials
  • Help maintain all inventory for location accuracies; this will include responsibility for cycle counts.
  • Perform random quality checks of parts entering the facility to ensure that they match the packets and prints attached to the part.
  • Able to work timely and promptly to deliver an on-time product without manufacturing errors.
  • Most of the work performed will be individually.
  • Essential tools and equipment will be provided; however, accountability and maintenance of tools will be the employee’s responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as directed by leaders and management.
  • Actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
  • Become forklift certified for all on-site lifts
  • Daily forklift inspections
  • Knowledgeable of battery hook up and general maintenance of large Forklifts
  • Ability to work 100% in an outdoor environment
