About The Position

This position reports to the Director of Retail with latitude for independent actions within the scope of the mission, guiding principles, values, ethics and strategic goals of Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, Inc. This person is responsible for the smooth flow of donated goods from collection to post-retail markets in a profitable manner. Oversees donation collection, production, recycling, security, safety, and loss prevention. Oversees contracted production work on and off site so that the needs of business partners, consumers, staff, and Goodwill Industries are met consistently. Provides vision, leadership, direction, and supervision to warehouse and all aspects of operations department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in management, business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ warehouse, logistics, transportation, maintenance, or similar service industry management experience.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make business, social, or civic contacts.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Loyalty to the agency and its mission and policies.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Must be willing to obtain a forklift license.
  • Ability to use good judgment, discretion, and initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in management, business, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of the Production Workers, Operations Team Lead, ADC Attendants, Foreperson and Utility Workers.
  • Indirect supervision of Truck Drivers
  • Supports and enhances retail activities in every logistical way. Ensures the efficient transport of donated goods and supplies needed to service stores and donation centers. Inventory will need to support the revenue objectives for each store from a quantitative and qualitative perspective.
  • Delegates authority and responsibility to team members under the direction of the Director of Retail and keeps them informed of changes in policy and trends. Directs, coaches and guides them in their work in order to help them attain individual growth and departmental goals.
  • Maintains relationships with companies within the territory.
  • Demonstrates leadership by holding all team members accountable for established best practices, standard operating procedures and annual goals.
  • Evaluates performance and takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensures departmental equity and compliance with all federal, state and local regulations; safety, security, and quality standards/codes, and agency policy. Assist team members in understanding and complying with CARF standards.
  • Directly influences growth of donation including increasing donor partnership and expanding donation streams through donor drives. Ensures that trucks are in the community for donation activities.
  • Minimizes waste expense by recycling and identifying other commercial and charitable uses for product. Evaluates current inventory and salvage processes and identifies opportunities for expansion of salvage operations through increased revenues and collaboration with community partners.
  • Oversees/monitors the quality of merchandise and production output is adequate to meet sales goals. Ensures the highest level of customer service to reduce customer complaints and problems.
  • Maintains top-flight condition and appearance of the warehouse focusing on housekeeping and safety at all times. Communicates needs for repair, fixtures, maintenance, etc.
  • Ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition and that all safeguards are in place. Makes recommendations based on current needs and expected growth.
  • Ensures that all operations documentation including inventory and production statistical data is completed by staff in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Reviews resumes and applications for vacant positions, conducts interviews, and makes hiring decisions.
  • Submits recommendations regarding operational, and capital budgets to the Director of Retail.
  • Works collaboratively with all departments to maximize service opportunities and maintain a continuous improvement agenda.
  • Reviews and analyzes the results of the department in order to establish performance standards, detect trends, and determine proper course of action.
  • Is available during nontraditional hours including weekends, holidays, and evening periods.
  • Serves as an emergency contact for agency locations in need of support outside regular business hours.
  • Examines and analyzes expenses, production, and revenues to achieve maximum E/R. This includes maintaining production benchmarks. Makes recommendations to the Director of Retail to increase efficiency, increase revenue, and lower expense.
  • Operates the warehouse forklift trucks and baler.
  • Completes all duties of the job and all work requirements.
