About The Position

Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability. As a Wafer Fabrication Technician, you will work with hardware engineers to fabricate devices at a wafer level. You will be a critical part of ensuring the smooth operation of Wafer Fabrication processing infrastructure by ensuring the same level of device quality and accurate documentation. You will also be responsible for performing Statistical Process Control (SPC) measurements to monitor process health. This role is essential for Google Quantum AI to build scalable and reliable electronics for the next level of computing. The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $93,000-$133,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Requirements

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, other verifiable training in a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in a cleanroom.
  • Experience with wafer inspection, lithography tools, deposition tools, etch tools, measurement tools, and microscopes.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of experience in vendor management and procurement of electromechanical and laboratory components, PCB and FPCB rework (e.g., soldering, de-soldering, crimping, etc.).
  • 3 years of experience in fabrication techniques used for rapid prototyping (e.g., laser cutting, 3D printing, drill press, band saw, etc.).
  • 3 years of experience creating and maintaining technical documentation (e.g., drawings, schematics, Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs), etc.).
  • Experience with microfabrication equipment and processes.
  • Experience handling Silicon (Si) wafers or similar substrate form factors.

Responsibilities

  • Follow cleanroom/Safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of every part.
  • Create test wafers and perform measurements for SPC.
  • Inspect devices and document defects.
  • Fabricate devices using defined instructions and tools.
