About The Position

To ensure efficient and effective operations resulting in increased profit, job creation, and mission fulfillment. Under the leadership of the President and CEO, the incumbent is responsible for the successful operation of AGI Attended Donation Centers (ADCs), Goodwill store locations, transportation, post retail, property management, facilities management, new store setup, organizational safety, and purchasing. Directs and coordinates activities to assure the successful development of physical assets to meet organizational objectives and ensure the ongoing image of developed assets.

  • Ability to conceptualize and make improvements through systems alignment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team leaders, team members, customers, and donors.
  • Ability to effectively train and coach team members, including people with disabilities and/or other vocational disadvantages.
  • Knowledge of data management systems, including point of sale systems and programs.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions independently as required.
  • Ability to build teams, motivate others, delegate job duties, and hold team members accountable for completing responsibilities. Effective at getting work done through others.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and stand for extended periods and lift goods. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. individually and more with the assistance of others.
  • Ability to work side by side as a hands-on leader.
  • Ten years of donated goods operations or retail leadership experience running multi-million dollar operations with multi-site and multi-functional responsibility.
  • Bachelors' degree in business management, operations, or related.
  • Must be able to work after-hours and weekends.
  • Must be able to travel locally and nationally.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, appropriate insurance coverage, and a privately owned reliable means of transportation to travel throughout AGI territory to visit stores and locations regularly.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of transportation/logistics, post-retail, and aftermarket experience preferred.
  • Masters preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates Alabama Goodwill Core Values in all actions, ensures adherence to Guiding Principles and CARF standards.
  • Leads, directs, trains, and coaches operations leadership providing technical assistance, training, and leadership development.
  • Maximizes sales per square foot, donor value and ensures transportation services-related deliverables, compliance, and profit.
  • Plans and develops donated goods operations activities using available data, resources, and capabilities to ensure continuous performance improvement.
  • Visits ADCs and Store Locations regularly to review performance issues, labor issues and provide technical advice.
  • Leads and directs the purchasing of new goods, materials, equipment, and supplies to ensure necessary quality at the appropriate price and delivery.
  • Proactively resolve conflicts among collection, production, internal/external distribution, and sales processes of donated goods to keep the Goodwill "River" flowing.
  • Supports overall direction of safety efforts to ensure the security and well-being of AGI assets, team members, and customers.
  • Participates and supports the Leadership Development Team. Trains and coaches operations leadership in conjunction with the Talent and Culture (HR) and Learning Teams to meet Goodwill objectives and ensures that each TLC or Director works within a framework of both professional and personal growth.
  • Advocates for and supports mission integrated employment programs and other mission employment efforts.
  • Prepares and submits annual AGI operations budgets and ensures all areas of responsibility are within budgeted expense to revenue ratios.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and image of Store Locations, ADCs, Transportation fleet and adhere to all safety and housekeeping procedures.
  • Approves operational purchase orders, work orders, petty cash, and expense reports in accordance with established budget and Goodwill practices.
  • Ensures statistical counts (i.e., donor counts, apparel hung, rotation count, etc.) are completed accurately and timely. Regularly reviews and analyzes overall performance, cash reports, daily, monthly, and yearly activity reports, transmittal of reports, daily deposits, and team meeting minutes to assess trends, monitor progress on goals, and lead change.
  • Keep abreast of product knowledge, industry trends, and competitive pricing through comparative shopping of competitors (i.e., full or discount retail, consignment, and second-hand thrift).
  • Reviews and monitors the physical plan and assets of all facilities on a scheduled basis.
  • Recommends to the President the acquisition, sale, and financing of AGI capital assets.
  • Monitors all AGI construction projects and serves as the AGI point of contact for developers, general contractors, landlords, architects, civil engineers, and local government officials.
  • Leads and directs Facilities Management to ensure the maintenance, upkeep, and desired image of physical assets; and operates the department within budget.
  • Establishes and implements short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Participate in the strategic planning process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the team leader.
