About The Position

The Vice President, National Real Estate Programs, provides strategic leadership for NeighborWorks America’s national real estate development, asset management, and resident services initiatives. The Vice President is responsible for shaping and advancing enterprise‑wide strategies that strengthen sustainable real estate business lines, support high‑performing portfolios, and expand impact across the NeighborWorks Network. Serving as a national thought leader and subject matter expert, the Vice President aligns financial, technical, and programmatic resources to support Network organizations engaged in multifamily and single‑family real estate development and the operation of approximately 175,000 rental units nationwide. The role also includes strategic oversight and partnership with NeighborWorks’ affiliated community development capital corporations to ensure the availability and effectiveness of capital products supporting the Network’s real estate activities. The Vice President leads and develops a team of senior program staff and is accountable for departmental performance, budget planning, and stewardship of significant program and capital resources.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree preferably in business administration, public policy/administration/affairs, nonprofit management, planning, or related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible professional experience in affordable housing, real estate development, asset management, finance, or a related field, including at least 5-7 years of demonstrated supervisory and people‑management experience.
  • Considerable knowledge in real estate development, finance and portfolio management, and resident services.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with ability to balance mission and bottom line.
  • Significant work with and understanding of community-based non-profits and affordable real estate development and management in this environment.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and set the direction for a team of staff.
  • Management of multiple complex programs with the ability to meet critical deadlines. This includes managing budgets, timelines and coordinating with a diverse group that will include but not be limited to staff, consultants, and advisors from within and outside the NeighborWorks® network.
  • Demonstrated strategic change management for innovation along with ability to conceptualize and launch new strategies and programs over a period of years.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, analyze quantitative and qualitative information, and make recommendations as well as to prepare studies, surveys and reports.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others and successfully interact with people at all management and support levels, as well as people of diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Accomplishments that reflect innovation, teamwork, integrity, effectiveness, and efficiency, including demonstrated leadership, ability to influence and bring about consensus, be flexible and to work independently.
  • Ability to develop high-level professional relationships, coordinating with national and local partners and funders.
  • High level of flexibility and adaptability required.

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite.
