About The Position

SUMMARY The Vice President, Chief of Donor Services Officer (CDSO) is a key member of The Foundation’s Executive Team responsible for asset and fund growth through exceptional donor experiences and with the highest level of service in standards of stewardship. The CDSO donor engagement strategies that connect donors to mission, community, and one another, ensuring charitable intent is honored and philanthropy is impactful, sustainable, and rooted in Catholic values.

Requirements

  • Seven to ten (7-10) years' experience of donor services at a leadership level; Community or Catholic Foundation or diocesan experience a plus;
  • Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Non-Profit Management or related Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree a plus; or equivalent work experience, with seven or more years of senior administrative, financial, and/or fundraising leadership in a complex corporate, academic and/or nonprofit setting;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required and Blackbaud software preferred or other constituent/donor relationship management system;
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, and managing teams with a focus on performance, collaboration, and professional growth.

  • Must be a practicing Catholic;
  • Ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality;
  • Strong customer service orientation;
  • Ability to travel local and Diocesan-wide as well as regionally and nationally and work evenings and weekends as required for special events, meetings, travel, etc.;
  • A passion of community involvement and philanthropy, infectious enthusiasm, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Practice of the Catholic faith is required. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church or the policies of the Diocese.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, articles, and periodicals. Must have outstanding problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required with skill in writing grammatically correct business correspondence. Ability to make oral group presentations and skill in speaking with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational background.
  • Ability to apply routine mathematical concepts such as addition, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Position requires walking, sitting for extended periods of time, bending, stretching, and stooping. Repeated use of hands, fingers, wrists, and arms. Must be able to see up close as well as from afar. Job incumbent must also possess the ability to hear and communicate both verbally and in writing, in person and via telephone and electronic communications.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in relationship building through a management of a portfolio of 50-75 major gift donors and prospects.
  • Provide exceptional, donor-centered stewardship through responsiveness, relationship-building, and high-touch engagement.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of specific charitable giving vehicles including but not limited to current IRS Estate Tax Codes, Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Donor Advised Funds and Endowments.
  • Serve as guardian of donor intent, ensuring accurate documentation, compliance, and confidentiality of all donor and fund information.
  • Engage donors and professional advisors to advance awareness of charitable tools and planned giving opportunities.
  • Create innovative recognition strategies that celebrate philanthropy within the Catholic and broader community.
  • Oversee timely and accurate gift acknowledgements, including personalized correspondence for major and special gifts.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Donor Services team, fostering a donor-centric culture aligned with Foundation and Diocesan values.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate staff; manage performance metrics and departmental goals.
  • Develop and manage the Donor Services budget in alignment with the Foundation’s strategic plan.
  • Supervise donor cultivation and prospect pipeline management, including planned giving.
  • Collaborate with the CFO on fund agreements, onboarding of new fundholders, and legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Support donors as well as diocesan parishes, schools, and affiliated entities in establishing and growing endowment and reserve funds.
  • Build and maintain relationships with professional advisors and leads the Planned Giving Advisory Council.
  • Oversee the management and execution of the Giving Circle(s).
  • Partner with Diocesan Discipleship & Stewardship Office to steward Giving Society members.
  • Collaborate with Foundation and Diocesan Communications teams on donor communications, recognition opportunities, and storytelling across print and digital platforms.
  • Serve as liaison to the Board of Directors, engaging members in donor and prospect cultivation.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the nonprofit and Catholic philanthropic landscape to strengthen donor partnerships.
  • Represent The Foundation and Diocese of Orlando on diocesan boards, committees, and national forums as appropriate.
  • Ensure complete and accurate donor and fund records in the Foundation’s CRM.
  • Develop, document, and implement donor services policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and organizational policies affecting donors and funds.
  • Model and promote the Foundation’s mission vision, and Catholic values in all internal and external interactions.
