Motiva operates the largest single-site base oil manufacturing facility in the Western Hemisphere, with a nameplate capacity of 40 MBD and a strong track record of earnings performance. The business is a critical pillar within the global Aramco Base Oils Affiliate Alliance and a key contributor to Motiva’s downstream portfolio. The Vice President, Base Oils & Americas Alliance Sales is a senior leadership role responsible for setting and executing the commercial strategy for a highly specialized product portfolio. Reporting to the EVP of Marketing & Sales, this role requires a dynamic leader who can integrate long-term strategic direction with near-term market execution—optimizing sales, pricing, production alignment, and logistics to maximize value. The position is also responsible for Alliance Base Oils (S-Oil, Luberef, and any future Aramco affiliates) sales in the Americas as this is an important priority for the Group and Motiva, including Valvoline supply synergies and Group value capture. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the oil and gas industry, with expertise in base oils production, sales, and distribution, and will be expected to develop and execute strategic plans aligned with company objectives and Aramco's vision, driving initiatives for enhanced market competitiveness, profitability, and sustainable growth. Finally, stakeholder and relationship management with the Affiliates and Aramco Group are critical to the successful strategy execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with a focus on Commercial activities, downstream operations, or base oils production.
  • Proven executive leadership experience with full P&L accountability in a complex, global business.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate market dynamics into actionable strategy and drive business performance.
  • Demonstrated track record of strategic leadership, business development, and market expansion within the oil and gas sector.
  • Ability to lead across organizational boundaries and effectively influence senior stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the base oils business, including quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to balance technical expertise with commercial decision-making to optimize outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret market data and performance metrics to inform decisions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability in team management, talent development, and fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 35% of the time, both domestically and internationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in specialty products, refining, lubricants, or adjacent sectors preferred.
  • Experience working with Aramco and/or Global international oil companies.
  • Experience in driving digital transformation initiatives and implementing digital solutions to improve decision making, processes and workflows.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MSc) is preferred
  • Experience with cross-cultural negotiations

Responsibilities

  • Own the commercial P&L, including volume, revenue, margin, and fixed expenses (~$6.4MM annually).
  • Deliver against key financial metrics.
  • Partner with Finance and Manufacturing to align on cost structure, operational expenses, and value optimization.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives while ensuring adherence to quality, safety standards, and achieving financial targets.
  • Develop and implement business plans for the Motiva and Affiliates Alliance (S-Oil, Luberef, etc.) base oils business in the Americas, including market penetration strategies, pricing strategies, and product development initiatives.
  • Develop and implement sales and marketing strategies to promote base oils products, achieve sales targets, and enhance brand visibility.
  • Lead domestic and export commercial activities identifying customer needs and drive product innovation, including new applications working closely with the customer’s R&D and formulation development to use Alliance barrels (Motiva, S-Oil and Luberef).
  • Define and execute pricing, sales, and customer strategies to maximize market position and profitability.
  • Build and maintain strategic customer relationships across key markets.
  • Strategic collaboration with Aramco Base Oils marketing positioning and B2B campaigns.
  • Partner with Port Arthur Manufacturing aligning production planning, asset utilization, logistics and capital strategy.
  • Work closely with Contracts and Customer Service to enhance customer experience, performance metrics, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive alignment across the Base Oils Management and Executive Teams to ensure delivery of business objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, and foster a collaborative and high-performance work culture for the base oils team.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing commercial, logistics and technical organization.
  • Lead and mentor a diverse group of professionals, promote professional development, and ensure team members are aligned with company goals, values, and expectations.
  • Co-lead base oils strategy with Business Development colleagues, including capital investments aligning with both Motiva’s Commercial product positioning, and long-term growth initiatives as well as Aramco Alliance value capture.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations to expand the company's presence in the base oils market.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.
  • Serve as a key representative and influencer within the Aramco Base Oils Affiliate Alliance.
  • Participate in Steering Committee governance, shaping global strategy, supplier positioning, and technical alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with Affiliate and Master Sales Agreements while advancing Motiva’s strategic interests.
  • Engage in regular global forums, including monthly alliance meetings and quarterly in-person sessions.
  • Provide strategic direction on product positioning based on the technical attributes of base oils.
  • Partner with Technology leadership to guide product approvals, certifications, and innovation priorities.
  • Represent base oils commercial interests in Port Arthur site leadership forums, including manufacturing, logistics, and HSSE engagement.
  • Collaborate with Crude Optimization and Trading to influence feedstock strategy and maximize production economics.
  • Serve as Motiva’s representative with industry organizations, including the Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association (ILMA) and ICIS.
