About The Position

Each Village Coordinator oversees one camp village, and facilitates and provides a safe and supportive atmosphere for youth and staff to learn and grow during the summer camp experience. This position serves as a member of the LVC Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Commitment to being punctual and adhering to a schedule provided by camp leadership.
  • Possess strong communications skills and apply them with coworkers and supervisors, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive staff and camper information when necessary.
  • Ability to perform job duties in a fast-paced environment and able to embrace change and be flexible.
  • Ability to provide job coaching constructively to team members.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (PEAK can support in attaining).
  • Must be at least 18 and/or have a high school diploma/GED before the position start date to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • While not required, familiarity with the ability to pass PEAK’s motor vehicle background check and driver training and safely drive/transport adults and children in PEAK vehicles, including a 12-passenger van.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach Camp Counselors and provide ongoing informal feedback as well as formal coaching forms.
  • Ensure that counselors have the logistical support necessary to do their jobs effectively. This includes, but is not limited to, helping them understand schedules and/or assisting counselors in creating daily schedules, providing necessary supplies, setting expectations for maintaining living units and bathrooms, communicating clearly the village and camp rules as well as expectations for participant behavior, and communicating and upholding organizational policies and procedures.
  • Be aware of and support the unique needs of campers and ensure that these needs are met during the camp session. This includes, but is not limited to, activity and dietary restrictions, medical conditions, medications, and allergies that could present challenges during the session.
  • Promote prosocial behaviors and ensure that participants and employees in assigned village are living in a safe and healthy environment at all times. This includes the physical and emotional environment.
  • Actively lead, participate in, and assist in the preparation and implementation of camp, including All Camp activities, staff training, bus duty, inventory/clean-up and more. Village Coordinators may be asked to go to Milwaukee on camper arrival days to interact with campers and families and be a bus chaperone. Village Coordinators may also be asked to be a bus chaperone from Lake Valley Camp to Milwaukee and back on camper departure days.
  • In between sessions (including between orientation/training sessions), Lead Team members will be assigned by Administrators to drive a vehicle back to PEAK in Milwaukee and then bring staff back to Lake Valley Camp after camper drop-off is complete.
  • As a member of the LVC Leadership Team, Village Coordinators will participate in regular meetings to provide updates and strategize to help our camp community be the best it can be. Village Coordinators will be responsible for some evening/overnight shifts as Supervisor-on-Duty. Village Coordinators may be asked to supervise campers overnight in situations that would mean they would not be staying in their typically living quarters. The Village Coordinator will be expected to work from early morning to late at night (often 7:00am to 11:00pm) on a typical day and additional hours when necessary. They are also expected to be on call throughout the night in case of emergencies in their village. Village Coordinators will consistently act as a positive role model for our community and their actions and decisions should reflect that expectation.

Benefits

  • This position is compensated at a rate of $850 per week, pre-tax.
  • All meals are provided during camp sessions.
