Performs journey-level volunteer services work under the general supervision of the Director of Community Relations with moderate latitude for the utilization of initiative and independent judgement. Work includes recruiting and training new volunteers, keeping a database of volunteer information and skills, processing, and tracking donations to the Volunteer Services Council, creating monthly and annual volunteer activity reports, matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills, keeping volunteers informed, and conveying the organization's purpose to the public. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of community resources and organizations, and community engagement strategies.
  • Knowledge pertaining to multiple nonprofit fundraising strategies.
  • Knowledge pertaining to volunteer tracking databases.
  • Skilled in dealing with the general public and establishing/maintaining effective relationships with community leadership and local organizations.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing, and promoting volunteer programs.
  • Skill in public speaking and providing effective presentations.
  • Skilled in organizational and team-building strategies.
  • Skill in working collaboratively and cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to create in-service volunteer training and matching volunteers to areas that complement their skill set.
  • Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in marketing, public relations, volunteer or non-profit management and two (2) years of direct experience in marketing, public relations, volunteer or non-profit management.
  • Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility.
  • Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in Salesforce volunteer or donor databases preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists in developing volunteer recruitment and retention plans based on federal grant requirements; recruits volunteers in accordance with the recruitment plan; fully screens and processes volunteer applicants; interviews, selects, and assigns under the supervision of the State Director of hospital Community Relations.
  • Creates and provides educational and training materials and programs that establish the etiquette for volunteers and patients.
  • Identifying, assessing, and complementing patients’ needs with volunteers’ skillsets.
  • Oversees required records, files, and the program database regarding volunteer schedules, and evaluates volunteers’ performance and effectiveness.
  • Evaluates and executes requests for any donated items, funds, and/or services that may meet patients' needs.
  • Compiles and produces an annual Volunteer Services Report for the System Operations Committee.
  • Leads fundraising campaigns throughout the year to increase available funds for Volunteer Services Council’s activities and supplies.
  • Managing and maintaining monetary and in-kind donation tracking database.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
