About The Position

The Volunteer & Intern Coordinator recruits, trains, and manages volunteers, interns & work studies to best support refugee and immigrant populations served by the Immigrant and Refugee Center of Northern Colorado. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and has close cooperation with the IRC Leadership Team. The coordinator is responsible for being the liaison between Colleges and Universities, the Local Workforce Center, Community Partners, IRC staff/clients and volunteers. This person must be able to assess fluctuating needs of the IRC and clients and be able to find ways for these needs to be filled utilizing volunteer support. The Coordinator will also work closely with IRC Leadership to coordinate and host events for community engagement and community partners. Some events may require evening or weekend hours. While the majority of hours will be onsite and at partner locations, a small number of hours may allow for remote flexibility. Requirements

  • Experience as a volunteer and/or working with volunteers.
  • Experience in Education, preferably Adult Education.
  • Demonstrate a passion for the work and mission of IRCNOCO and ability to communicate this to others.
  • Experience in developing partnerships and/or working with other groups/organizations.
  • Experience in Human Services or Customer Service.
  • Experience in Event Planning and Coordination.
  • Familiarity with and ability to navigate various social media platforms.
  • Bachelor’s or Associate Degree, or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Management, and Coordination.
  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal, written, email and messaging communication skills.
  • Strong Digital skills, ability to easily navigate online portals, the Google suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with training employees or volunteers.
  • Ability to demonstrate superb organizational, time and project management skills.
  • Proactive communication skills, ability to initiate and follow up on conversations.
  • Skilled at Hospitality. Must enjoy meeting new people and making them feel welcome and comfortable.
  • 1-year previous experience and understanding of working with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Access to reliable transportation as some meetings and responsibilities will take place offsite.
  • Proven ability to work both on teams and independently.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit interview and orient all IRC volunteers, work studies and interns.
  • Contact volunteers to assist at different events.
  • Schedule volunteers for Little Learner’s childcare assistants, and classroom assistants.
  • Network with community partners for volunteer needs.
  • Manage the Volgistics Volunteer database and monitor volunteer, intern and work study time logs.
  • Maintain regular communication with current volunteers including e-newsletters, individual calls, etc.
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation each term.
  • Coordinate with Colleges and Universities to Recruit, Arrange for and Orient Work-studies and Interns, including; attending recruiting fairs, interviewing and onboarding potential candidates,and maintaining communication with all partner schools.
  • Ensure all necessary Sunrise agreements and contracts with Colleges and Universities are up to date.
  • Assist volunteers, work studies and interns in completing appropriate paperwork (i.e., background checks, confidentiality agreements, etc…)
  • Maintain timely records of volunteer hours, and donations as needed.
  • Maintain communication with interns and work-study students and support them as needed.
  • Fill in to support as needed if there is a severe shortage of staff or volunteers in Little Learners.
  • Support the leadership team with planning and/or coordinating Community Engagement events, including; attending meetings, purchasing supplies, set-up/tear down, coordinating event details, volunteer needs, and thank yous.
  • Help to coordinate and support with Distribution Events such as Diaper & Blanket Disbursement, Baby Baskets, Donation Disbursements and Winter Clothing Drive.
