About The Position

Under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), the Volunteer Coordinator develops plans, implements, and oversees comprehensive volunteer programs and activities that support the Agency’s mission and operations. This role is responsible for the full volunteer lifecycle, including recruitment, screening, onboarding, training, placement, supervision, recognition, and retention, while ensuring compliance with Agency policies, HR standards, and applicable regulations. The Volunteer Coordinator will develop and expand existing partnerships to create a pipeline of volunteers. While working within Human Resources, the Volunteer Coordinator will assist in supporting the department with administrative assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree is required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Must have good planning, organizing, and interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires a flexible attitude and ability to prioritize calls, tasks, and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Good understanding of the program needs of the Agency to place volunteers in their assignments.
  • Ability to work effectively with and meet the needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities, including underserved communities and people from the different racial groups, socioeconomic statuses, nationalities, and languages that make up GLCAC’s clientele to support the agency’s mission of building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization for employees and clients alike.
  • Must have a suitable CORI & SORI completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

  • Prior volunteer coordination experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development & Partnerships Develops, plans, and coordinates Agency-wide volunteer programming aligned with organizational goals and community needs.
  • Cultivates new partnerships and strengthens existing relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, corporate partners, and faith-based groups to create and sustain a diverse pipeline of volunteers.
  • Collaborates with program leadership and Department Managers to identify volunteer needs and appropriate placements.
  • Volunteer Recruitment, Screening & Onboarding Recruits, interviews, and places volunteers in roles that align with Agency needs, volunteer skills, and interests.
  • Coordinates and administers volunteer onboarding processes, including completion and maintenance of required onboarding documents (applications, confidentiality agreements, waivers, codes of conduct, and acknowledgements of Agency policies).
  • Oversees background screening, reference checks, and other pre-service clearances consistent with HR policies, funder requirements, and regulatory standards, in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Ensures compliance with all Agency policies related to child safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  • Orientation, Training & Supervision Plans and delivers volunteer orientation sessions to introduce Agency mission, programs, policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Coordinates role-specific training in collaboration with Department Managers and program staff.
  • Provides ongoing supervision, guidance, and support to volunteers, addressing questions, concerns, and performance issues in a timely and supportive manner.
  • Conducts periodic evaluations of volunteers, in collaboration with Department Managers where volunteers are assigned, and documents performance feedback as appropriate.
  • Volunteer Support, Engagement & Counseling Serves as a point of contact for volunteers, providing ongoing support, problem-solving, and counseling related to placement, performance, or interpersonal concerns.
  • Works closely with HR leadership to address volunteer conduct issues, corrective action, grievance resolution, and separation processes, as needed.
  • Promotes volunteer engagement, recognition, and retention through meaningful assignments, feedback, and appreciation initiatives.
  • Scheduling, Coordination & Events Coordinates volunteers for ongoing program tasks as well as Agency events, outreach activities, and special initiatives.
  • Assigns volunteers to assist with Agency community outreach activities, in collaboration with program leadership.
  • Plans, organizes, and promotes volunteer-related events, including site selection, logistical arrangements, purchasing supplies, scheduling, and serving as the primary point of contact for event execution.
  • Data Management, Reporting & Compliance Establishes, maintains, and manages the volunteer database, ensuring accurate and confidential records of volunteer information, onboarding documentation, training completion, background screening status, and service hours.
  • Tracks volunteer hours for Agency reporting, funder requirements, and verification for educational institutions offering service hours or school credit.
  • Prepares regular data summaries and reports for submission to the CHRO and Executive Director, including information for Board reports and audits.
  • Collaboration & Committee Participation Participates as a Co-Chair of the Outreach Committee, contributing volunteer strategy and relaying relevant information to Human Resources as needed.
  • Partners closely with HR to align volunteer practices with organizational policies, risk management standards, and workforce initiatives.
  • Stays informed of best practices in volunteer management, HR compliance, and community engagement.
  • Ability to network with external partners and participate in networking events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the CHRO.
