About The Position

This position will coordinate all volunteer engagement (including individual volunteers and Good Neighbor Teams) for the World Relief Baltimore field office.

  • Excellent problem solving and planning abilities, and a willingness to analyze and adapt processes to better achieve goals.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts, tools and activities, requirements analysis and facilitation helpful.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills; demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Able to perform well in spite of complex or ambiguous challenges.
  • Able to build positive inter-departmental relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize, convene, motivate, coach, and facilitate individuals and teams toward a common purpose.
  • Familiarity and ease of use in basic computer programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, databases); other design/marketing skills a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (or relevant experience).
  • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
  • Periodic evening and weekend availability required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to learn Dynamics database and other internal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a strong and dynamic volunteer base enabling the office to effectively support service delivery, fundraising and community outreach objectives.
  • Establish a comprehensive volunteer engagement plan including formal recruitment, training, communication, support and recognition plans for both individual volunteers and Good Neighbor Teams.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies for critical volunteer opportunities, assessing and refreshing priorities on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities to further integrate volunteers throughout the office.
  • Work closely with churches and/or other community partners to recruit and engage Good Neighbor Teams.
  • Maintain a consistent, efficient and thorough application and screening process of all volunteers that complies with National Performance Standards.
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries from the public in a timely, professional manner.
  • Ensure the provision of orientation and training to all incoming volunteers and GNTs.
  • Collaborate with WRB program staff and leadership in the scheduling, development, coordination and facilitation of volunteer and GNT orientations and trainings.
  • Develop and conduct refresher and volunteer development training sessions for existing volunteers.
  • Closely track database and manage volunteer/GNT assignments. Develop frequent targeted emails, phone calls, and unique methods of engagement within existing volunteer base.
  • Monitor the progress of each volunteer/GNT assignment, addressing any performance deficits in a timely manner.
  • Check-in regularly with volunteers and GNTs and provide support as needed.
  • Create and plan opportunities for meaningful volunteer recognition throughout the year.
  • Ensure that each volunteer is connected with a broader community of volunteers, either through church-based teams or through periodic gatherings with other volunteers.
  • Maximize use of World Relief’s e-learning platform “the Workshop” to develop learning pathways for volunteers and GNTs.
  • Ensure follow-up and communication with churches, organizations, volunteer groups, including appreciation, events and thank you notes.
  • Develop feedback mechanisms in order to identify opportunities for improvement with volunteer/GNT engagement.
  • Collaborate with WRB programs staff and leadership to create and support church and volunteer engagement opportunities for individuals and GNTs.
  • Act as a liaison between volunteers and the office to ensure that staff are prepared for the arrival of volunteers, and that all necessary tools, resources, and materials are readily available and that all staff understand details and expectations.
  • Attend program meetings as needed to share volunteer input on client adjustment and integration, and to better guide volunteers in assisting to meet programmatic and missional goals.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely communication between volunteers and WRB staff in order to address volunteer opportunities, concerns, questions or needs and relay to appropriate staff.
  • Alongside the Office Director, develop an office-wide volunteer philosophy and recruitment strategy.
  • Manage Volunteer Program metrics by developing and maintaining program evaluation methods, including regular entry and monitoring of volunteer data and tracking, to evaluate program effectiveness and growth opportunities.
  • Provide coaching and accountability to employees who interact with community partners, volunteers, and interns, focused on volunteer role development, recruitment, placement, retention, encouragement, and recognition.
  • Participate in national volunteer staff working groups on a periodic basis.
  • Facilitate 1-time volunteer service events as appropriate (e.g., Church service days)
  • On occasion, represent World Relief at community events or speaking engagements.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
