About The Position

Schedule/Hours: M – F 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week) This position is responsible for: Responsible for the coordination of disaster preparedness and response for The Salvation Army at a Corps level including the preparation of a written disaster preparedness and response plan. Responsible for communicating and coordinating that plan internally with all local Salvation Army departments and staff and with county emergency management officials. Provides leadership in times of disaster response. Ensures that all disaster equipment is in good working order and provides training of staff on disaster equipment and the procedures for the use of that equipment in disaster response. Identify and plan safety-training needs and coordinate safety-training programs for personnel and special events. Represents the Corps at divisional and regional preparedness training events and at local and regional emergency management coordinating meetings and events. Recruits, trains, coordinates, and monitors the work of volunteers, ensuring ample staff to meet program needs; prepares records and reports regarding the same.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform routine and complex mathematical computations.
  • Work is performed in an office environment; driving around; warehouse setting, or other environments where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt,
  • Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.).
  • Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
  • Two-year degree or equivalent in Communications, Business, or a related program one year experience recruiting people to perform work with organizing and training for disaster services or similar programs
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid state driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date records on all volunteers; prepares annual report regarding the status of the volunteer program.
  • Confers with the supervisor regarding the status and performance of the volunteer program; prepares records and reports regarding the same.
  • Communicates and trains Salvation Army Corps personnel in National Disaster Training Program material and prepares local disaster teams for disaster preparedness and response as outlined in the approved disaster plan.
  • Ensures that all disaster equipment and vehicle are in good working order at all times and ready for deployment as needed ensuring that maintenance is performed, and logs are updated and compliant within Divisional EDS Protocols.
  • Provides training to staff and volunteers on disaster equipment and the procedures for the use of that equipment in disaster response; Identify, coordinate, and provides EDS and safety-training programs to personnel and special events.
