About The Position

Develop, implement and provide oversight and coordination of seasonal and on-going special events and EDS programs; implement strategies for volunteer recruitment, retention, training and coordination of volunteers for the local area.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of one (1) year experience in disaster response or any other emergency response role.
  • Ability to be flexible, prioritized, and work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a sense of urgency.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Mathematical skills include adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, using common fractions and decimals.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • Must pass all applicable background checks.
  • You must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside.
  • Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
  • Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
  • Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment.
  • May need to climb, balance.
  • Kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • This position will require the ability to lift and/or move more than 25 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • This role is responsible for managing the Winter Night Watch and Family Food of Hope
  • Complete full Emergency Disaster Services Training to be a fully credentialed EDS worker, this will include specialty classes in Incident Command and Logistics.
  • Attend EDS community events as the primary point of contact, along with supervising
  • Work with the Volunteer department for recruiting and retaining EDS volunteers.
  • Recruit community partners for seasonal efforts, which include WNW, FFOH, and EDS outreach.
  • Coordinate with management when directed, to recognize significant volunteer contributions by individuals and groups.
  • Maintain communication with volunteers and community partners, notifying them regularly of volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, regularly scheduled and special upcoming events.
  • Participate in local fire response calls, clean and prepare response vehicles, and coordinate available volunteers.
  • This position will be required to attend events, conferences, and meetings that may take place outside normal working hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Driving is an essential function of the position.
  • All other duties as assigned.
