About The Position

The vision of St. Vincent de Paul – Dayton District Council is to improve the lives of people in need in the Miami Valley. Our Mission is to, with Christian purpose, accompany those in need one person at a time by focusing on shelter, food and clothing. Every day we let our light shine! Position Summary/Objective The Volunteer Coordinator promotes a culture of safety, hospitality, service, honor, and respect among our homeless guests, our staff, and volunteers, for the purpose of furthering the vision and mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the organization of group volunteer activities, particularly “Group Services Days” as directed by the Manager of Volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator works with other Special Works managers and directors to execute the projects that volunteers accomplish during a Group Service Day such as custodial projects, shelter beautification projects, or guest engagement projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; some college education preferred.
  • Evening and weekend availability is required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, utilizing all forms of communication including phone conversations, emails, small group presentations, and in-person meetings.
  • Current Driver’s License: Able to travel to multiple locations within workday using own form of transportation (car mileage is reimbursed).
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds regularly
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs frequently

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient experience in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Experience with database entry or customer relationship management software (CRM) a plus!
  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Work a nonstandard work week as needed
  • Work evening or night shift hours as needed
  • Provide coverage for other positions, shifts or functions as needed

Responsibilities

  • Understands and communicates the mission and values of St. Vincent de Paul Society to volunteers.
  • Promotes a positive volunteer experience by supervising volunteer engagement amongst guests, neighbors, and employees.
  • Coordinates the Group Service Day and other group activities calendar with the guidance of the Manager of Volunteers.
  • Together, with the Manager of Volunteers, creates a vision and plan for each Group Service Day and volunteer group.
  • Communicates Group Service Day schedule to Shelters, CityThrift, Central Kitchen management in advance.
  • Advertises volunteer and guest engagement opportunities as needed.
  • Takes a supply inventory and orders what is needed for group service days according to budget allowances.
  • Coaches volunteers on project instructions, safe environment, and best guest engagement practices.
  • Demonstrates gratitude to volunteers on behalf of St. Vincent de Paul using all forms of communication.
  • Supervises and monitors weekend and evening volunteer group activities as needed.
  • Administer and processes fingerprinting background checks according to requirements.
