About The Position
This is professional work assisting Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors with casework providing services to eligible individuals with disabilities related to the coordination of consumer activities or special projects and in compliance with Federal and State requirements, and monitoring client/reimbursement activities. This position is expected to perform these duties with a minimum of direct supervision: Works directly with customers by obtaining referral information Assists VR Counselors with interviewsMakes referrals for appointmentsCompletes the VR applications and assesses resourcesImplements necessary procedures to acquire additional information needed including vocational, psychological, and medical information Maintains ongoing contact with customers through review of customer records and field visits to determine case service statusConducts thorough search for customers where contact has been lost through all means known to the agencyCommunicates with vendors, staff, community rehabilitation providers, community/One Stop partners, and employers to expedite services for new and existing customersSchedules customer services identified in the Individual Plan for Employment (IPE) or case recordCoordinates necessary transportationAssist customers with purchasing of equipment, tools, supplies, clothing, licensesAssists counselor with job placement and follow-up services Assists counselor in identifying, and customer in obtaining comparable benefitsObtains third party refunds and reimbursementsProcesses automated case service expenditures in accordance with state and federal regulations and policiesProvides administrative support and/or technical assistance to professional staff such as:processing datacorrespondenceroutine technical reports to aid in the completion of casework and to facilitate caseload managementdocuments activities in customer case recordresponds to routine community inquiries and participates in community education and job fairs and other assigned activities
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in a counseling, job placement, job coaching or public vocational rehabilitation program can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Knowledge of: the principles and techniques of effective communication, interviewing techniques, PCs, Word and the Rehabilitation Management System, methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data
- Ability to: maintain confidentiality regarding information on internal and external customers, access and use automated systems, interview clients to identify needs, provide information and referral services, locate and develop community resources, plan, organize and coordinate work activities, actively listen to others, communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
