About The Position

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a federal-state vocational program dedicated to helping people with physical or mental disabilities be successful in employment. Professional Overview This position performs professional supervisory work overseeing Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors. The role is responsible for leading, coaching, and developing staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; and evaluating performance to ensure effective service delivery and positive workforce outcomes. The incumbent exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, assigning, promoting, disciplining, and recommending personnel actions in alignment with agency policies, and operational goals. This position may require occasional travel within the assigned service area.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of the evolving workforce and the needs of individuals with disabilities within advocacy and/or employment-related roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in the following fields: Counseling, Business, Psychology, Education, Public Safety, or Criminology and 3 years of professional experience.
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in relevant fields and 2 years of professional experience.

  • Strong supervisory experience managing personnel, including performance management and staff development
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply data (e.g., caseloads, performance metrics) to support decision-making and improve outcomes
  • Supervisory experience leading, coaching, and evaluating staff, including performance management and workforce development
  • Experience interpreting and applying data (e.g., caseloads, performance metrics, workforce outcomes) to inform decision-making and improve service delivery
  • Direct experience working with individuals with disabilities in settings such as independent living centers or employment-focused environments
  • Experience supporting advocacy efforts that build skills and promote independence for individuals with disabilities
  • Experience in human resources, recruitment, and talent acquisition practices
  • Experience designing and delivering staff training and workforce development initiatives
  • Experience as an employer, small business owner/operator, or in self-employment, demonstrating knowledge of workforce expectations and business operations
  • Experience supporting or engaging in competitive integrated employment environments
